We’re still looking for your personal kite adventure stories. You have until the end of May. You can email them to info@worldkitemuseum.com. And don’t forget, you can receive a barndoor Tree Top advertising kite for your story. It certainly is an antique shape but is made of plastic materials, which makes it younger.
Here’s a heart felt story from a New York State kite lover:
Kite Art Workshop
Painting on Ripstop
June 13 & 14, 2009
Both experienced and beginning painters will love this opportunity to paint on ripstop nylon. The fabric, processing, frames and suggested color applications will be handled by kite artist Don Mock. The design and/or picture is the student’s creation. The cost of the two-day class is $50.00, which includes instruction and all materials.
You will make a 30” X 46” dela porta, easy to fly rectangle kite with your decoration.
Very Special Exhibit
2009 AKA Miniature Kite Master
Claris Skoczdopote
June 27, 2009
Nelson Borelli has donated his collection of Claris Skoczdopote miniature kites to the World Kite Museum. These kites plus some from Dave Shattuck and other collections make up the Museum’s first peek at kites from Argentina.
One special part of Claris’s miniature work are his butterfly kites. Their coloring is exact replicas of butterflies found in his country.
Others include the indigenous Argentina’s kite, an eight-pointed star. The faces of the stars are decorated with silhouetted tango dancers and men in fedora hats. Other miniatures include swallows, a fly and - the wonder of all wonders - a witch on a broomstick.
This special exhibit opens June 27. It will be available through January 2010. Watch the web page for more specifics.
And There’s More
WSIKF
August 17-23, 2009
So many things to think of when you’re getting ready for the Washington State International Kite Festival. But, of course, since this is the World Kite Museum’s voice talking, we’re nagging you about the auction. Put a sack or box just out of your way but handy enough so you can easily put things in it for the raffle/auction. Also remember this year’s theme - "Carnival!" Check out the weird old pair of sunglasses I found. I’m ready to trim them past recognition with glitter, feathers, sequins, diamonds and rubies and more.
Sandy Stonebreaker will be helping plan the food so expect yummy, yummies. And of course the same world renowned, laugh-a-minute auctioneers will keep us entertained. See you there!
Held the 3rd Full Week of August Each Year: August 17-23, 2009 August 16-22, 2010 August 15-21, 2011 August 20-26, 2012 August 19-25, 2013
